As the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema at Başkent University’s Faculty of Communication, we were delighted to start the new academic year by hosting the award-winning producer and director Zeynep Gülru Keçeciler.
Keçeciler, who has earned awards at numerous international festivals including the Cannes Film Festival, attended a screening of her award-winning film "When Mother Leaves" on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 10:00 am in the Prof. Dr. Abdullah Demirtaş Conference Hall. Following the screening, she participated in a talk titled “Documentary and Ethics,” moderated by Dr. Aslı Şahinkaya Ermiş.
During the talk, discussions centered on the tension between "constructing and reflecting reality" through the lens, from the perspectives of documentary filmmaking and directing. Keçeciler shared valuable insights on the pre-production and post-production stages of documentary filmmaking, elaborating on team dynamics and the unique advantages and challenges she has encountered as a female director. This inspiring gathering addressed both ethical issues and artistic approaches in documentary cinema, offering our participants a comprehensive view of the on- and off-camera processes.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our esteemed guest Zeynep Gülru Keçeciler and to all participants for joining us in this meaningful event.
